Having studied anatomy with legendary Diana Attie and through her work at the University of Toledo Health Science Campus, Ms Giovannuci has an in depth understanding of the skeletal system and surface musculature of the human body that is so very essential to depicting the human form.

"I have learned a lot from you and would heartily recommend the class to anyone interested in learning the sub-structure of the human body and how our bones and muscles work together to make us what we are." Phil Deckebach Toledo OH

Upcoming Classes

Classes are held at the Art Supply Depo in Downtown Toledo. You can also see classes on our calendar or click "events" on our Facebook page.

Class Descriptions

Anatomy for the Artist: Six 3-hour sessions
Classes start with drawing demonstrations that describe the overlay of muscle on bone followed by 2 hours of figure drawing from life.  To aid in understanding we also look at master drawings, the "Pocket Body" interactive anatomical app and our good friend "Stan" the standard skeletal replica.  This class meets 6 times and provides and in depth study of the visible bones, muscles and tendons of the body.
Session 1:  Identifying bony landmarks
Session 2:  Shoulder girdle
Session 3:  The trunk
Session 4:  The arm
Session 5:  Upper leg and knee
Session 6:  Lower leg and overview

Head Study: Three 3-hour sessions
Classes start with drawing demonstrations that describe different aspects of the head followed by 2 hours of student drawing. There will be models for the last two classes, but since the underlying structure is so essential we will draw directly from the skull for the first class.
Session 1: The skull  (No model)
Session 2: Musculature of the face and neck
Session 3: Features of the face and head

Hands and Feet: Three 3-hour sessions
Classes start with drawing demonstrations that describe bones, muscles, tendons and pads and explore ways to block out and simplify the forms of the hands and feet.  Each lesson includes 2 hours of figure drawing from life.
Session 1: Bones of our hands and feet
Session 2: Tendons, muscles and pads of the hand
Session 3: Tendons, muscles and pads of the foot
